The trick to staying warm is layering smart, not just layering more.
A thin thermal base layer
A thin merino or technical base layer traps body heat far more efficiently than one thick sweater, and it doesn't add the bulk that makes movement awkward.
A substantial mid-layer knit
This is where most of your insulation should live. A heavier knit between your base layer and coat does more for warmth than any single outer layer alone.
A coat rated for real cold
Not all winter coats are equal — check the actual insulation, not just the look. A coat genuinely built for freezing temperatures changes how long you can comfortably stay outside.
Insulated, waterproof boots
Cold feet make the whole body feel colder. Proper insulated boots with a waterproof sole keep you warmer for longer than fashion boots ever will.
A scarf, hat, and gloves — not optional
You lose a disproportionate amount of heat through your head, neck, and hands. Treat these three as essential gear, not accessories, on genuinely freezing days.
